“This year’s World Customs Organization Council sessions were attended by Timor Leste Director General Mr Câncio de Jesus Oliveira and the Senior Management Advisor Mr Tony O’Connor.
The Council sessions were opened by Jacques Chirac, Former President of the French Republic who spoke about the need for Customs to play an increased role in the interception and prosecution of those involved in the illegal trafficking of illegal medicines. He spoke of the need to control the trafficking of counterfeit medicines worldwide.
The Timor Leste Director General made an intervention shortly afterwards in Portuguese expressing his appreciation for the opportunity of Timor-Leste’s attendance and participation at this important meeting. He spoke about the need for increased capacity building in Timor Leste and the benefits obtained by the conduct of the Harmonized System Workshop held in Timor Leste in February 2010.”
