Handover ceremony of certificate – a Brazilian Government’s sponsored Portuguese course

The Training Centre of the Ministry of Finance recently organized a handover ceremony of certificate for the completion of a three-month Portuguese course. The ceremony took place on the Friday, 24 April 2015 at the Training Centre building of the Ministry of Finance. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Alexandro, General Coordinator and Ms. Elisa Rosalen, Vice Coordinator of the “Programa de Qualificação de Docentes e Ensino de Língua Portuguesa no Timor-Leste (PQLP), Cooperação Internacional Brazil – Timor-Leste and Ms. Remigia Viana, Acting Coordinator, Training Centre, Ministry of Finance. The PQLP had assisted the Ministry of Finance since 2011 with the provision of Portuguese course at all levels.

It was the third and last Portuguese course provided by the Brazilian Government through the PQLP. The courses, which consist of two levels, basic and intermediate, were attended by the Ministry of Finance staffs and lasted for three months. The courses touched on basic grammar, listening, communication and speaking skills.

Mr. Carlos Conde, on behalf of the course participants, in his speech, stated that “this training constitutes a big learning process for the public servants” and he hoped that “these skills will enable them to perform better in their day-to-day works”. He further added that “this initiative, in the context of cooperation between Brazil and Timor-Leste, shows a committed bilateral cooperation between the two countries”.

Ms. Elisa Rosalen, Vice Coordinator of the PQLP, her brief remark, emphasized that a valuable lesson that was learned from Timor-Leste, especially from the Ministry, was “the respect that the Timorese has for their teachers”. She mentioned that “respecting the teacher is what a country grandiose”.

Ms. Ángelica Ilha Gonçalves, the lovely Portuguese teacher, encouraged the participants “not to happy with little they have learned, but they need to search for more”.
